NICE TO MEET YOU
Hi I’m Sofia, a London based photographer, I like to photograph weddings, parties, people, things and did I say weddings?! I’d love to learn about you, but here’s a bit about me to get us started.
Photographing weddings is the best job ever. Fact.
When I was 4, I used to sneak like a ninja (I still do this) to play with ‘the family camera” hidden at the back of my grandpa’s wardrobe. This glorious machine only came out at weddings, birthdays and Christmases. I’d set up my dinosaurs, little ponies and beheaded barbies (dinosaur gotta eat) and recreate award-worthy scenes. Fast forward to 35, and not much has changed. Well, I’m still super stealthy and I still like to photograph but I try to focus on capturing relationships, emotions and unique moments.
What I’m all about
Let me describe you my perfect day, I’d wake up in Bali have Mama noodles for breakfast (that’s right, noodle fans you know what I’m talking about), gather for an all you can eat bbq and sushi fest with my gang of beloved peeps, walk Indiana Bones (my never-listens-to-me cockapoo) down the beach, have an epic sunset surf and end it with a bottle (or 3) of rum round the camp fire. This hasn’t happened yet, but I know the universe will deliver.
I wish I could be a vegetarian, I love animals, but being half Spanish and weak for chorizo I just haven’t been able to make the leap.
I’m thoughtful, fun, quirky and kind, that’s what my friends say anyway! And frankly I’ll take it.
I can’t reverse park to safe my life, I will drive around in circles and pretend to look lost rather than try and reverse into a space.
Travelling makes my heart swell, and I’m really not fussy. You’ll find me equally happy all boho chic in a sun-drenched villa in Ibiza or on a wild solo mission Rambo style in the depths of Vietnam.
Fun fact people seem to like, I have a MSc in Primate Conservation or like my friends like to say, monkey studies – making me an over-qualified monkey know-it-all. Photographing our furry cousins is actually how I got into this whole business, although nowadays I’ve swapped them for the less-hairy kind.
Being a wedding photographer
Years ago when I had more guts than sense, my best friends asked me to photograph their wedding. ‘Are you sure? It’s the most important day of your lives?!’ I asked. ‘It’ll be fine’ they said ‘we just want a few party pics and some for nan’s mantel piece’. Let’s just say it wasn’t my best work, looking back some of the pics makes me cringe a little, apart from the dance floor ones, they rocked! Fast forward a few years my other friends asked me to do their wedding (brave souls). This time I went in with more experience, armed myself with knowledge, new equipment and a bucket load of bravado and happy to say, nailed it!
I love people watching, relationships, connections, faces, expressions, colours, telling stories and a good party! I’m the kind of photographer that likes to mingle with your guests, laugh at the best man’s speech, have a boogie with the parentals and totally immerse myself to capture those moments right from the centre of the action. If you want a photographer that’s like an old friend blending in, then I’m your girl.
Simply put, I really care about what I do and love doing it. I put all my energy into your wedding day to create memories you can look back on that make you smile.
